What is Cardiopulmonary Exercise Testing (CPET)?

CPET has become a crucial clinical tool to assess exercise capacity, cardiovascular and skeletal muscle systems. The test measures maximal oxygen uptake, which is the maximum amount of oxygen a person can utilize during intense exercise. This test is based on the premise that the more oxygen a person can consume, the more efficient their lungs and heart are performing at rest and during exercise.

What Conditions Benefit from CPET?

This test is useful for the evaluation of exercise tolerance and aerobic capacity. CPET is also helpful for patients with cardiovascular disease.

What Should I Expect During Exercise Physiology?

You will be on an exercise bike for about 15 minutes. Based on your results you will receive an exercise prescription along with appropriate short- and long-term goals to keep you motivated and on track.
